Larry Crane Tropical Depression Release and Release Concert at Buskirk-Chumley
Larry Crane and Very Special Guest Tim Grimm For an Acoustic Evening of Songwriters and Their Songs
Brought to you by our friends at Malibu Grill and Vance Music.
A venerated guitarist, Larry Crane is hitting his stride as a singer-songwriter. In the tradition of the greats that he’s accompanied in the past, like John Prine, Roseanne Cash and James McMurtry, Crane is proving his mettle as a troubadour. Guy Clark says “Larry’s songs are like your favorite uncle’s old stories--they may not be true, but they are full of truth.”
Larry’s new CD, Tropical Depression, is his fourth album since working in John Mellencamp’s band and is inspired by palm trees and ocean breezes, but steeped in the Midwestern sensibilities of the Seymour native now thawing in Florida. From the island rhythms’ of the title track, to the to the pedal steel guitar melodies of “Just Kentucky,” the album does a masterful job of merging the seemingly disparate worlds. Think --a Hoosier on vacation. And though the album fits nicely into the singer-songwriter genre, long time fans will appreciate the rich, full band rocking arrangements on “Once You Love” co-written with Steve Earle and “Gone, Gone Gal.”
Larry’s bringing it all back to Indiana with the Tropical Depression Release Party and Concert at the BCT. You can also get a special price on a ticket and a CD combo at Tracks records on Kirkwood.
Fellow Southern Indiana native, acclaimed songwriter, actor and hay farmer Tim Grimm will open the evening. Grimm has toured and recorded with his friend, the legendary, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, appeared with Harrison Ford in the film Clear and Present Danger, and has shared the stage with writer and poet-farmer Wendell Berry. His recording, The Back Fields was named Best Americana Album in the 2006 Just Plain Folks Music Awards in Los Angeles (the largest and most diverse music awards in the world). Named 2000’s “BEST DISCOVERY in Roots/Americana Music” by The Chicago Sun-Times, and “2004 MALE ARTIST of The Year” by the Freeform American Roots DJs, his songs and performances have established him as a unique voice in Americana music.
"an immensely talented singer-songwriter.... His rootsy ballads are filled with simple pictures of hardworking farmers and widow women fighting to keep their lives true to the land. His rich experienced vocals put him right up there with the best in the genre." CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
