Starting in May, a handful of local bands will be competing for the title of Bloomington’s Best Band and the $1,000 cash prize that goes with it!
Tickets now on sale for all three rounds! Visit the BCT Box Office. We are now able to open the theater for in person tickets for the final round!
Criteria for Judgment
The Judges will rate bands on a scale from 1-5 in 4 categories.
Musicianship: Technical skill, dynamics between players
Performance Quality: Stage presence, production value, general presentation
Genre: Does the band represent their genre well?
Originality: Song Writing, overall concept
The total points a judge can award is 20. There will be a popular vote from the audience to win an additional 20 points. Bands may perform without masks as per Monroe County Health Department regulations at the time of filming. BCT Management is committed to observing all possible health and safety measures with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bands may lose points or be disqualified if their performance or conduct is overtly unsafe or somehow denounces the theater’s safety efforts.
Rounds 1 & 2 will be split into three virtual shows on Mandolin using pre-recorded sets at the BCT. Round 1 will showcase all participating bands and Round 2 will showcase the remaining bands.
Once a band’s application is submitted someone from the BCT will reach out to confirm a date and time for recording. Bands will have 2 hours to set up, warm up, and record their entries for Rounds 1 & 2. Please prepare 2 short sets: one set up to 10-minutes for Round 1 and one set up to 20-minutes for Round 2.
All bands will have access to the recorded footage from their participation in this event, regardless of their level of advancement.
Bands advancing to the Final Round will be contacted by someone from the BCT with information about soundcheck and performance times.
The Final Round will have 3 bands perform to a limited in-person audience with livestreaming on Mandolin. Each band will play a 30-minute set. Bands should be prepared to clear any personal instruments and gear from the stage as quickly as possible after their set so that the next band has enough time to set up for their performance. The winner of the contest will be announced at the end of the concert where cash prizes will be awarded: $1,000 for the winning band and $500 for the runner-up.
