The BCT & COVID-19

June 13, 2020

In light of the latest guidance from health officials, we are pleased to announce that the Buskirk-Chumley Box Office will be reopening to patrons starting Monday, June 15.

Here’s what to expect:
– The Box Office will be open 12pm-5pm seven days a week.
– Facemasks will be worn by all staff and volunteers. Box Office staff will also be wearing face shields and have hand sanitizer at the register.
– We ask that all patrons wear facemasks while in the building.
– Patrons in the box office will be limited to one individual or one party at a time. You may be asked to wait outside in the shade of the marquee for a few minutes during busy times, but we will do our best to keep everyone moving through briskly.
– As always fee-free online sales are still available on bctboxoffice.org!
– To minimize risks, some staff are still being encouraged to work from home when possible. We thank you for your patience!
– All surfaces will be regularly disinfected.
– We will continue to monitor and adjust our policies in light of the latest health and safety guidance.

We know many of you have been missing the experience of coming together as a community to enjoy art, and we sure have missed you! However, gathering sizes remain limited in the interests of public safety. We will soon be announcing some summer events that will follow the state and county’s posted restrictions on gathering size. Stay tuned!

If you have questions, suggestions, or concerns, please feel free to reach out at any time to the BCT Box Office at (812) 323-3020 or boxoffice@buskirkchumley.org.

We want to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported the theater through participating in our fundraisers, donating the cost of a canceled ticket, designating us as your Amazon Smile or Kroger Community Rewards recipient, or showing our staff love and support on social media. It remains unclear when conditions will allow us to again host revenue-generating events, so this support has been and will continue to be more important than ever. Thank you once again for helping us get to this point. We look forward to opening our doors.

In keeping with new state and local recommendations, the BCT is postponing re-opening for at least one more month. The health of our patrons is our highest priority as we evaluate our options to safely re-open. We are closely following developing public health guidelines to update our sanitation and social distancing policies and make for a smoother and safer transition for our patrons to return to the theater. June 14th is the soonest we have been directed to re-open the Box Office and resume hosting events.

Due to the extension of the stay-at-home order, more BCT events have been canceled or postponed. Our website is being updated and patrons are being contacted about the status of their tickets as promptly as possible, and we thank you for your patience as changes develop on a daily basis. The BCT Box Office staff is committed to helping patrons with their tickets for rescheduled and canceled events as they work from home, and can be reached at boxoffice@buskirkchumley.org

As expected, this extended closure continues to deepen the financial impact on the Buskirk-Chumley Theater’s operation and staffing. If you would like to support the BCT during this challenging time, donations can be made online by clicking HERE or mailed to:

We want to thank all recent donors who have already shown support for the BCT! Your individual contributions made during this time, including those from the Marquee YOUR Message Auction, donated tickets from canceled shows, and #GivingTuesdayNow response, have totaled over $17,000 in COVID-19 relief for the theater. Thank you!

April 3, 2020

The Buskirk-Chumley Theater will give its supporters a chance to publicly share their own message of positivity and encouragement during these uncertain times with the Marquee YOUR Message virtual auction and fundraiser beginning April 9th at 12pm. The nonprofit performing arts venue has remained closed since mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the much-needed funds raised from the auction will be used for its staff and operations. A portion of the proceeds will benefit United Way’s COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund for Monroe, Owen and Greene Counties.

To participate, supporters will need to visit the auction website HERE when the auction goes live on April 9th at 12pm, to bid for a chance to to add an uplifting message to the marquee. Opening bids begin at $400 and the auction ends April 11th at 12pm. All winning bidders will be contacted to submit their messages and will start seeing their messages on the marquee through the beginning of May. The BCT will share a photo of the marquee online for everyone to see.

If you have any questions about the auction or have an interest in other ways to support the BCT, please contact Lily Bonwich.

March 17, 2020

Based on recommendations by the CDC and others, we are extending our closure through Sunday, May 10th. At this time, we plan to re-open Monday, May 11th. All events in the meantime will be canceled or rescheduled and ticket holders will be contacted, if we were provided with an email or phone number.

This extended closure will of course deepen the financial impact on the Buskirk-Chumley Theater’s operation and staffing. If you would like to support the BCT during this challenging time, donations can be made online by clicking HERE or mailed to:

If you are committed to seeing shows at the BCT when we re-open, this would be a great time to purchase a gift card, for yourself or others. That gift card can be used to purchase tickets now or in the future and the balance will live on your box office account until used. A purchase today would help our current cash flow challenges.

March 13, 2020

In the interest of promoting public health and safety, the Buskirk-Chumley Theater has made the difficult decision to cancel all events and close its doors until April 6th.

Ticket holders are being notified of cancellations, including cancellation of events ticketed by the BCT Box Office & Downtown Visitors Center but held elsewhere in the community. Our website is being updated and refunds are being issued as quickly as possible but we request your patience as we deal with a complicated situation.

This decision was made with the community’s interests in mind but will have a devastating impact on our organization’s budget and our ability to accomplish our goals.
