Description:

This year’s opening concert features the powerful vocals of Cape Verdean singer Lucibela. Her repertoire includes Brazilian pop and bossa nova, jazz, and the morna and coladeira genres.

This young Cape Verdean singer honed her vocal technique in hotels and bars across the Cape Verde islands, developing a repertoire that has included Brazilian pop and bossa nova, jazz, and the morna and coladera genres unique to that culture. Now based in Lisbon, Lucibela continues to share those traditions with audiences around the globe. “The world has been waiting for another Cape Verdean singer with [Cesaria Évoria]’s sublime poise and emotional power. We may have just found her in Lucibela” (Banning Eyre, NPR).

Doors open at 6:30pm at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater for this general admission event. Wearing a mask indoors is greatly apreciated.
