Copeland James is a keytar-wielding alternative folk artist from Bloomington, IN. Drawing influence from artists such as Lucy Dacus, Imogen Heap, and Regina Spektor, James’ music seeks to fill in the gap between what we want to say and what ends up coming out. Their debut album Small Talk (2023) introspects on failed communication, precarious intimacy, and our flawed human nature. Earnest without being naïve, Copeland James ponders the complexity of loving deeply — and not just romantically — while knowing this puts their heart at risk.
“An artist who writes from the heart, performs with playful precision, and sings from somewhere deeper still. Copeland James has an ability to put into words what most of us have felt at one time or another. Joy in the minute details, the awkward exchanges we’ve all had, the one-in-a-million impulsive intimate moments and the harshness that follows when all the sweetness in companionship ends. Then the gradual realization we can all love again.”
-- Teri Moth, Moths and Giraffes
Their wistful melodies, nostalgic piano, and soaring string accompaniments complement introspective lyrics at every turn. Copeland’s music is influenced by a background in classical music, which shines through in unexpected harmonies and delightfully crunchy chord progressions. With clever lyrics and a pared-down chamber pop production style, their music reflects the raw allures and perils of coming of age.
Lenox Monroe, 21, is a pop singer/songwriter originally from Indianapolis, IN. Monroe began singing and performing in elementary school, but only started writing and sharing her own original music in high school following the death of her best friend in 2018. Since then, Monroe has had the incredible opportunity to write and record her original music in Nashville, TN with award winning industry veterans who have written, recorded, and performed with artists such as Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, John Mayer, Maddie & Tae, and Betty Who. Monroe writes about love, loss, friendships, relationships, growing up, and growing apart. She uses her music to communicate what words alone cannot, to connect with and inspire others, and to remind them that they're not alone. You can find her music on all streaming platforms (Lenox Monroe) and follow her journey @lenoxmonroe on all social media or at www.lenoxmonroe.com.
